The 4 dimensions of team success

Have you ever wondered what makes a team go from just good to absolutely great?
Stephanie McSwiney
The 4 dimensions of team successI wyrd blog: part I "the science behind wyrd"

That's something we at wyrd have been really keen to figure out. After extensive research into the the best and latest science rooted in positive psychology, we've found four key things that help teams do more than just work – they help them shine. We're excited to give you a high-level overview here, and don't worry, in the next parts of our series, we'll dig deeper into each of these areas.

Flow: When work feels like play
Think about those moments when you're so into your work, you totally lose track of time. That's what Flow is all about. It's when what you do fits perfectly with what you love and what you're great at. It's not just being busy; it's loving what you do so much that it doesn't feel like work. And the cool part? Science shows that being in Flow doesn't just make you happy and give you tones of energy – it makes you really good at your job too.

Meaning: Doing stuff that really matters
Here's where it gets really interesting. Meaning is all about how your work connects with what you personally believe in. It’s about your job matching up with the things that are important to you. When that happens, every task feels like a part of something bigger and more exciting that you’re really passionate about.

Relationships: More than just working together
In the best teams, relationships are key. It's about connecting with teammates who share your values, making work not just productive, but also fun. And it’s about having leaders who do more than give orders. They’re the kind who lift you up, spark your enthusiasm, and encourage everyone to grow. These aren’t just work relationships; they're the kind that make every day at the office rewarding, where you and your colleagues, along with your leaders, grow and succeed together.

Context: The setup that makes everything better
Now let's talk basics – like your pay, where you work, your hours, and all the other little things that make your job fit into your life. These might seem simple, but they’re super important. Getting them right is a big deal for being happy and comfy at work.

4 dimensions of flourishing at work: flow, meaning, relations, context

The big goal: A team that flourishes

So, why are these four things so important? Well, they're the keys to turning a good team into a truly great one. Imagine a team where everyone's engaged, finding purpose in their work, feeling connected with their colleagues, and having a role that fits their life isn't rare – it's the norm. That's a team that's not just hitting targets but is also innovative, resilient, and a total joy to be part of.
